Vintage Inspiration //

3:07:00 PM
While in New York last week, I purchased this really cute Gatsby-esque silver headband, and spent a while tying to find the right thing to wear it with. I wanted a classic look, but was also searching for a modern twist to jazz up the look. //

I stuck with a basic color palette, black, silver, and white, in order to create a mature and classic look. I chose this lace tank top to emulate the look of a 1920s flapper-style dress. The scalloping at the bottom reflects the same shape and patterns of that style. I added a short black and gray striped skirt, a very classic piece that is still hip today. Finally, I threw on a silver and gold layered necklace, to add the create the 1920s era bling. Simple black flats finish off the look! //

Confident New Yorker Look //

7:33:00 PM
Ya girl is super happy, as her 5th day in NYC comes to a close! //

Yesterday was really great, including a visit to the New York Transit Museum, and a college tour of Pratt Institute. The museum is definitely an underrated hidden gem. The upstairs portion features an abundance of information on the NYC public transportation system, and how they deal with various disasters. Specifically, the 9/11 attacks, hurricane Irene, and various others. Although the train systems are not something I'm specifically interested in, the museum was overall still very interesting and highly enjoyable. Downstairs, there was a collection of old train cars from various eras, from the 1910s to 1990s. I took some 60-s inspired photos, which you can see on my VSCO: http://vsco.co/ladyclairvoyant //
Today consisted of a Times Square trip: lots of shopping, and seeing Something Rotten! on Broadway. We took the subway in, and I am pleased to say that over the last 5 days, I have become quite comfortable with finding my way through the city. I'm basically a New Yorker now, properly equipped to survive in the concrete jungle. (Yay!)

The show was hilarious, and I actually cried from laughing so hard (and also bc Christian Borle) (Like, he actually walked across the stage for a solid 5 seconds at the beginning of the show and I started crying). But anyway, the whole show is a ridiculous musical talking about how ridiculous musicals are. The songs are great, the costumes are amazing, and the show is overall great, and I would totally recommend that you get yourself some tickets if you want to laugh a lot.
Unfortunately, when I went to stagedoor afterward, only a few actors came out. Many didn't want to leave in between shows, which is understandable, but disappointing. I wanted to meet Christian Borle & Brian D'Arcy James REALLY BADLY. Thankfully, my dad is a G and is taking me back to stagedoor after their 8 pm show! :) //

Of course, my whole trip(life) has been focused on fashion, and so I am here to share my outfit of the day with y'all! I wanted to mix rather heavy, "masculine" pieces (overalls, workboots) with lighter and brighter "feminine" pieces (kimono, bralette), to create a "strong woman" type look. I felt really confident and empowered today, so my outfit features many patterns and colors (and a lot of skin). //

Bralette- Forever 21

NYFW //

9:56:00 PM
Ok ok so I'm not actually attending New York Fashion Week, but I totally deserve to. I've been keeping up with everything on snapchat & instagram, and I've been soaking in the atmosphere of the city right now.
New York City is wonderful, and I am loving every minute of it. The primary reason for this trip is so that I can make some college visits (specifically to FIT, Parsons, and Pratt). This time around, my family and I are staying in the apartment of some friends, and we have attempted to use the subway and bus services to travel around. Although we only arrived yesterday, I have already filled up my entire phone memory with photos, spent over $70, and have gone out to eat 3 times. someonepleasestopme. //

Today, we took a visit to the beautiful Metropolitan Museum of Art, where there was a special exhibit about Countess Jacqueline de Ribes and her couture fashion designs, which were absolutely stunning. Ribes, though later in her career was a known designer, worked under the instruction of Valentino, Armani, and many others for quite sometime. Born in France, she has designed for the "Bal Oriental," the peak of aristocratic beauty in Paris. I learned so many new things, and this exhibit was definitely my favorite. Fashion is what I live for. It's more than just waking up in the morning and putting on clothes. Fashion is art. It is self-expression; my clothes say something about myself in a way that is completely unique and individualized. The way I dress is an act of me owning who I am and what I like and how I feel and how I want to come across. Fashion tells stories. Fashion is a part of history. Fashion is personal; fashion is collective. Don't ever tell me that fashion is petty & that it doesn't matter. Because I live it & breathe it. //

Naturally, I took a million and one photos, and I will choose my favorites to post here. Also, be ready for many more NYC-related posts within the next week! I'll have so many adventures to share. //
