Valentine's Day Inspired Look //

7:18:00 PM

Valentine's Day (or what my sister calls "The Second Stupidest Holiday" [the first stupidest is Columbus Day {because he did not, in fact, discover America}]) is going to be here in just 3 days, so I decided to show you a cute Valentine's inspired look to get you into the love-y spirit even if you're single af like I am.
The fact that its been snowing in Boston the last few days certainly added an extra touch of romance and magic of these photos. I used a heart pattern and the color pink to really give off the Holiday vibe. Since it's cold where I live, I layered this look, wearing a gray turtleneck tank top with a pink bomber jacket. Under my denim skirt, I incorporated the heart patterned tights, and paired it with simple black ankle boots and a clutch. I feel like this look has a bit of an 80s vibe to it, and I'm loving it.

An Afternoon in May OOTD //

9:21:00 PM
Hello all! Here is my outfit of the day for May 22, 2016. I wanted to be slightly casual, but also create a more sophisticated and "high end" type fashion look. To do this, I stuck with minimal colors, (a dark denim, white, and cream pink), and used some current fashion trends, like the lace up heels and crossbody bag. Might I also add that my haircut looks absolutely KILLER with this particular look. I didn't add too many accessories, or extra "bling" in order to maintain the sophistication.  This outfit is very simple, but looks light and effortless; perfect for springtime.

WHERE TO SHOP THIS LOOK:
Jeans- American Eagle Outfitters
Top- Marshall's (I think-- I honestly don't remember)
Bag- Forever 21
Shoes- Aldo

Silver Linings (Spring 2016) //

11:22:00 PM
Before this post gets underway, I would like to apologize in advance for my recent absence on blogger. I really don't have a valid reason for it; all I can say is that I have been super busy lately, with the fashion show coming up in just 2 days! In honor of the hard work I've put in, I decided to post this brief promo video that I filmed for this collection. Please enjoy it! //

Silver Lining (n): an expression emphasizing the hope in an unfortunate or gloomy situation

This collection features evening wear for sad princesses. After all, being a princess isn't all it's cracked up to be. Society judges your every move, and everyday is centered around a series of rules and regulations. There is hope, princess. You make your own fairytale. Make life beautiful with the Silver Linings collection. //

I got the inspiration for this collection from castles, fountains, sculptures, and other architecture associated with royalty. The whole theme was "sad princesses;" focusing on the societal pressures put on young girls in society, while drawing the parallel to the rules and expectations put on those in royal families. However, there is still hope even in the darkest of situations, and I wanted this collection to be able to tell the stories of girls overcoming their struggles and oppression. Hence, the "silver linings" (each garment literally has silver lining on the inside), but also the idea of looking for the beacon of hope even in the most difficult of situations, and holding onto it.

I kept the color palette for this collection in the cool colors, to create the moody atmosphere. However, all of the fabrics are very light and flowy, which maintain a very feminine look. Additionally, the floral overlays and patterns created throughout the garment add another layer of texture and femininity, gaining influence from the multi-layered skirts, corsets, and underwear in the Victorian era; worn especially by royal families. //

ALI0N //

7:46:00 PM

Those of you who follow my social media accounts will have already seen this look, others of you will not have. It's okay! Everyone should keep reading to find out the inspiration for this look & where to buy it. //

So, this look is inspired primarily from one of my favorite style bloggers, Lindsey. (located at http://www.ali0nated.com). Her style is very vintage feeling, and is primarily in muted tones; deep browns, greens, mustard yellows, blacks; and she has signature glasses and long brown hair. //

To emulate her look but also add my own flair, I used a mustard yellow sweater, a vintage style denim skirt, loafer-styled heels, some frilly vintage socks, and my glasses (quite similar to Lindsey's).

Lindsey also often wears a dark lip to compliment the color scheme of her outfits, and I attempted to do the same with this NYC lipstick. //

Rainy Spring Look //

11:35:00 AM
Today is March 25; in Massachusetts it's the time of year between winter and spring, where one day it reaches 60 degrees and the next, everything is cancelled because of snow. I honestly just want to be able to break out all of my skirts and tank tops and sandals and other spring pieces, but the fluctuating daily weather makes layering a must.

For my look today, I attempted to incorporate some spring wear, but still remain warm in the New England weather. I went with a pair of black leggings, a very loose fitting dress and cardigan, some knit socks, and Doc Martens. The color palette is mainly light, with pinks, yellows, and grays (a tribute to the oncoming season), but also features strong portions of black, which fits with the current winter. //

This look is also a nice mix between carefree bohemian and urban street. The asymmetry, strong patterns, and grunge influence give it an urban look, but the florals, lacy pinks, and draped jewelry incorporate a boho princess vibe. //

Vintage Inspiration //

3:07:00 PM
While in New York last week, I purchased this really cute Gatsby-esque silver headband, and spent a while tying to find the right thing to wear it with. I wanted a classic look, but was also searching for a modern twist to jazz up the look. //

I stuck with a basic color palette, black, silver, and white, in order to create a mature and classic look. I chose this lace tank top to emulate the look of a 1920s flapper-style dress. The scalloping at the bottom reflects the same shape and patterns of that style. I added a short black and gray striped skirt, a very classic piece that is still hip today. Finally, I threw on a silver and gold layered necklace, to add the create the 1920s era bling. Simple black flats finish off the look! //

Confident New Yorker Look //

7:33:00 PM
Ya girl is super happy, as her 5th day in NYC comes to a close! //

Yesterday was really great, including a visit to the New York Transit Museum, and a college tour of Pratt Institute. The museum is definitely an underrated hidden gem. The upstairs portion features an abundance of information on the NYC public transportation system, and how they deal with various disasters. Specifically, the 9/11 attacks, hurricane Irene, and various others. Although the train systems are not something I'm specifically interested in, the museum was overall still very interesting and highly enjoyable. Downstairs, there was a collection of old train cars from various eras, from the 1910s to 1990s. I took some 60-s inspired photos, which you can see on my VSCO: http://vsco.co/ladyclairvoyant //
Today consisted of a Times Square trip: lots of shopping, and seeing Something Rotten! on Broadway. We took the subway in, and I am pleased to say that over the last 5 days, I have become quite comfortable with finding my way through the city. I'm basically a New Yorker now, properly equipped to survive in the concrete jungle. (Yay!)

The show was hilarious, and I actually cried from laughing so hard (and also bc Christian Borle) (Like, he actually walked across the stage for a solid 5 seconds at the beginning of the show and I started crying). But anyway, the whole show is a ridiculous musical talking about how ridiculous musicals are. The songs are great, the costumes are amazing, and the show is overall great, and I would totally recommend that you get yourself some tickets if you want to laugh a lot.
Unfortunately, when I went to stagedoor afterward, only a few actors came out. Many didn't want to leave in between shows, which is understandable, but disappointing. I wanted to meet Christian Borle & Brian D'Arcy James REALLY BADLY. Thankfully, my dad is a G and is taking me back to stagedoor after their 8 pm show! :) //

Of course, my whole trip(life) has been focused on fashion, and so I am here to share my outfit of the day with y'all! I wanted to mix rather heavy, "masculine" pieces (overalls, workboots) with lighter and brighter "feminine" pieces (kimono, bralette), to create a "strong woman" type look. I felt really confident and empowered today, so my outfit features many patterns and colors (and a lot of skin). //

NYFW //

9:56:00 PM
Ok ok so I'm not actually attending New York Fashion Week, but I totally deserve to. I've been keeping up with everything on snapchat & instagram, and I've been soaking in the atmosphere of the city right now.
New York City is wonderful, and I am loving every minute of it. The primary reason for this trip is so that I can make some college visits (specifically to FIT, Parsons, and Pratt). This time around, my family and I are staying in the apartment of some friends, and we have attempted to use the subway and bus services to travel around. Although we only arrived yesterday, I have already filled up my entire phone memory with photos, spent over $70, and have gone out to eat 3 times. someonepleasestopme. //

Today, we took a visit to the beautiful Metropolitan Museum of Art, where there was a special exhibit about Countess Jacqueline de Ribes and her couture fashion designs, which were absolutely stunning. Ribes, though later in her career was a known designer, worked under the instruction of Valentino, Armani, and many others for quite sometime. Born in France, she has designed for the "Bal Oriental," the peak of aristocratic beauty in Paris. I learned so many new things, and this exhibit was definitely my favorite. Fashion is what I live for. It's more than just waking up in the morning and putting on clothes. Fashion is art. It is self-expression; my clothes say something about myself in a way that is completely unique and individualized. The way I dress is an act of me owning who I am and what I like and how I feel and how I want to come across. Fashion tells stories. Fashion is a part of history. Fashion is personal; fashion is collective. Don't ever tell me that fashion is petty & that it doesn't matter. Because I live it & breathe it. //

Naturally, I took a million and one photos, and I will choose my favorites to post here. Also, be ready for many more NYC-related posts within the next week! I'll have so many adventures to share. //

CORRIDOR 121.1 //

12:51:00 PM
Today we are trying something new: I updating this blog whilst sitting on the Red Line train to Fanieul Hall (lol).

I just went to the MFA for a field trip with my fashion class, and stared at art for only about an hour before everyone started getting tired out (honestly I'm sad about it because I could stay at the MFA legitimately all day and be okay). Despite this, I am feeling very much alive & very happy, which is understandable given the fact that I took my last 2 midterms yesterday and went to bed with a weight lifted off my shoulders. //

My look today was very light, with flowy fabrics in pastel colors. The softness of this look really captures my mental state of being calm & content. Additionally, this look is comfortable, which is something I knew I would need traipsing through the city. I felt like a little fairy princess wandering through a forest of art ok //
